Although CBD is safe to use, there is still research that needs to be done that provides insight into what the FDA says on dosing, benefits, and even side effects. Considerations in Finding the Right CBD Dose
Finding the right daily dose of CBD is vital to experience the full therapeutic benefits of cannabinoids. Finding the correct dose of CBD for you depends on the following considerations.
1. Your Desired Effect
The optimal CBD dose for you is often determined based on the level of pain or discomfort you are feeling. Someone with chronic pain or severe anxiety may need a higher dose to ease their symptoms. A person with milder symptoms may see results with a lower dose.
The milder the symptom, the less you will need. The more severe the symptom, the more you will need.
2. Your Body Weight
The theory on dosage by weight considers CBD encounters other bodily tissue before reaching the endocannabinoid system. Because of this process, speed, and turnaround with which it travels and collects change based on body weight and mass. Three things affect CBD dosage and your weight.
- Absorption rate - The rate at which CBD may be absorbed through the endocannabinoid system in your body.
- Distribution rate - The rate at which CBD may be distributed through various organs in the body. This rate plays a part because multiple parts of the body have receptors that accept cannabinoids at different rates. The distribution of cannabinoids plays a role in its absorption.
- Metabolic rate - The rate at which the body metabolizes CBD and is dependent on the method of CBD consumption.
Typically, heavier people need higher doses to experience the therapeutic effects of CBD; lighter people, on the other hand, may feel the same results with a lower dose.
3. Your Tolerance Level of CBD
Just like anything, over time, you may develop a tolerance for CBD. This tolerance results in reduced effects from the daily dosage you have been consuming. When this occurs, you may need to increase your daily dose until you find your sweet spot again and experience your desired results again.
4. Your Concentration of CBD
CBD products range in concentration or strength from 250 mg to up 5000 mg in a given product. To find the amount of CBD per serving, you will take the total and divide it by the amount of tincture. For example, a 500 mg bottle of CBD oil in a 30 milliliter (ml) bottle has 16.67mg of CBD per 1 milliliter (ml).
5. Your CBD Form
There are other CBD forms not listed below. We are discussing the main three. The CBD dose for each of these forms may vary in your body.
- Tincture or Oil Drops: This comes in a drop or spray form which is dropped directly into your mouth. The tincture is the most supported and easiest method to use to control the CBD dose. The tincture allows you to take your daily dose of CBD orally or sublingually. Sublingually is the best method of taking CBD oil due to its high bioavailability rate- your absorption.
- Topicals or Relief Rubs: CBD topicals are the safest and most cautious way to use CBD. Keep in mind that you may need a lot more to provide an effective dose and applied every 4-6 hours to maintain the desired effect.
- Edibles (Gummies or Capsules): CBD infused gummies or softgels are easy to use and concise in dosage. Each bottle will tell you the amount of CBD per gummy or capsule. Edibles are taken orally and take longer to absorb because it goes through your digestive system, then ends up in your bloodstream.
Finding Your Sweet Spot in Your CBD Dose
The sweet spot in CBD refers to finding the right dosage of CBD that provides the optimal desired effect. The sweet spot is different for everyone and involves experimenting with dosage until you reach it.
Most of the therapeutic benefits of CBD occur in ranges of a few milligrams. When you take too much CBD, the excess amounts of CBD in the bloodstream flood your cannabinoid receptors.
When the receptors get flooded, they tend to sink inside the cell, leaving fewer receptors. It results in more CBD being needed to get the same effect. When you find the sweet spot, your blood level is high enough to have the therapeutic effect but not too high that it floods the receptor leading to tolerance.

Take the dose once a day, or in microdoses. To microdose, take the daily total and divide it by three.
Then take that new total amount three times a day. Start at week one. If you see the desired effects, maintain daily use at this dosage. If you do not see the desired results after one week, start week two.
Do this until you experience the desired effect, or find your CBD sweet spot. This CBD dosage chart is highly subjective due to the nature of CBD and the lack of research on it. You should not expect a measurable effect until you have been taking CBD for several days, consistently.

Most conditions don't require CBD doses above 120 mg per day. Most CBD users find their optimal dosage is between 40-120 mg per day. If you have severe pain or other debilitating symptoms or have a high tolerance for CBD, you may find that you need a higher dose of CBD than what is listed above.
CBD is safe to use, and gradually increasing your dosage does not carry any known side effects. Many people even find that incrementally increasing the dosage is the best way to achieve the desired results of CBD.
